A sculpture on another sculpture
Through the appropriation of an existing sculpture, this piece plays with an intervention on the same sculpture by altering it in a different way and creating another new sculpture above the pre-existing one, acting as the pattern of the plant called: ̈ Mal de ojo ̈- or Evil Eye (viscum album) a plant parasite, that lives and feeds in another plant. In this sense my sculpture will be fed from another pre-existing one.
The form that the sculpture will take is Inspired by the shape of the plant and also by the subtle action of the Mexican charro ̈ or horseman when he shows off the skills in performing ̈la reata floread ̈, an action made with the rope in the ̈charreria ̈, the national sport by excellence; the sculpture reapropiates this action that is provocated by the invisible movements of the wake or trail, Through the circular and oval shapes which are made in the space when the charro practice this action.
I start from the idea of using this imaginary movements combined with the behavor of the plant and materialize them in a simple form, to provide some light and movement to the old static sculpture.
